We woke up on the morning of December 13th, 2011 and Elifie had decorated the house. It was Cooper's 7th birthday and we could hardly believe it! Our first baby was SEVEN!!!!! On his birthday Cooper had school. But this was no regular school day. From 6:45-7:30, we opened presents and enjoyed some family time (while getting ready for the bus of course). 9:30 to 11:00 was Cooper's class holiday party which was a blast. The room moms had cut a TON of small pieces of fabric which the kids (meaning moms) ended up tying on hangers to make wreaths. As you can imagine, VERY cute activity which Cooper, being a BOY, was not too interested in.
After the party, I was the guest reader for 26 adorable and overly sugared First grade students. Although they had enjoyed a few too many donuts, they were wonderful and I really enjoyed sharing 4 books with them. Rocking chair and all, I was back in my element!
I ate lunch with Cooper's class, passed out treats to the kids then went home with the girls. THAT is when it happened! Biscuit freaked out, the doorbell rang and I heard a UPS truck pull away. THE DEATH STAR HAD ARRIVED! Last year, having been VERY into Legos and Star Wars for a few months, Cooper asked for the $400 Death Star for Christmas. We, as most parents would, said NO but made a deal that if he still wanted it one year later, we would talk. Well, it was one year later and we had talked over and over and over for 12 months. Cooper decided to forgo a birthday party (and keep some extra cash) and ask for money from us, Dede and Papa and Granny and Pappy and use it ALL to buy himself this long-awaited treasure.
When Cooper got off the bus, 3 houses away from ours, I mentioned what was inside waiting on him and he RAN home!!!!!!
It was here! A dream come true! All 3803 pieces of it......

So, my dining room has turned into Death Star central and we have been hard at work. We are only on step 37 of 200 something a few days later but it is FUN, Cooper is in HEAVEN and I think this is something he will remember forever. I know I will never forget his 7th birthday with him saving money and RUNNING to the house from the bus with a genuine smile on his sweet little face.
