Time for a laugh

The Dunkin Donuts by our house was affected by the recent floods in Atlanta. Since the flood damage they have been closed for repair.

Cooper: Hey mom, instead of calling it "Dunkin Donuts", they should call it "Soakin Donuts".

HA!

Want some swine with that?

We all knew last week as going to be a challenge.

1. I was going back to work and that entailed 4 FULL days of training and a dinner out

2. Phil had a business trip planned to PA Thursday and Friday

3. The kids were going to be with Grandma/Grandpa downtown at their hotel (they were visiting from PA for a conference) on Tues, with Phil on Wednesday, the nanny on Thursday and my mom/Ken (visiting from Australia) on Friday.

BUT I had a plan, a written schedule for each day, shopping done, and felt like even though we were about to dive into a crazy week.....we were ready!

Day one went off without a hitch. I went to work and Phil took the kids downtown at 8am to spend the day with Grandma and Grandpa. They swan in the pool, went to the children's museum and had a great day. Until midnight when Cooper came into our bed with a bad fever. Luckily Phil was "working from home" the next day and would be the one to watch the kids. I went off to work, Phil got Samantha up and ready for school and things were going okay. Cooper took a turn for the worse so Phil found a pediatrician here (we had not needed one til now) and got an 11:15 appt. After being thrown up on and filling out all the forms (all my mom friends know how this must have been a challenge for a dad) they met the greatest doc. Cooper was diagnosed with the Swine Flu and so our crazy week began.......

At about 11:30 I get a call (at work) from Samantha's preschool teacher saying she feels "sicky" and needs to go home. Phil leaves the doctor, picks up Cooper, heads home and unfortunately cancels his Thursday and Friday business trip. I pushed through work and even made it through dinner out even though my heart was at home. We continued through the week with midnight medicine administrations, lots of hand washing and Phil completing every home project we had. By week end I had worked 4 full days (training), Phil had nursed Cooper almost back to health and Samantha had remained germ-free (she was just "joking" at school).

Lesson learned, even if you have GREAT plans, life follows it own plan and with some flexibility, adjustments and deep breaths....you can get through it! Here's to week 2 being a bit easier on everyone.

Oh and yes, I am VERY lucky to have such an amazing husband. He is getting his needed "break" at the Falcon's game with his best friend today. :)

From stay-at-home to employeed!

Well, I got a JOB! I have had a job for the last 2.5 years but have worked from home and only about 5-6 hours per week. When we decided to make the move to Atlanta we knew that it would probably be in our financial best interest for me to look for employment outside of the home. With our home on the market in Jacksonville and a home we are renting here in Atlanta, this was still a factor. However, after I started the job search we quickly learned that finding the "perfect" job for me and the family would prove to be difficult.

When I saw the posting for this position I was excited but thought it would be more of the same: a full week of work for a salary that barely covered childcare. After my 2nd interview I was excited and after the third, hooked. Luckily I was offered the position and start on Tuesday with 4 full days of training.

It will be an adjustment for everyone in our family with mom going back to work. Now there will only be two days to "play", run errands and clean BUT knowing me, those two days will be even more special and packed with meaningful activities. On Tuesday and Thursday the kids will be with their new "nanny" and Friday will be spent at school and with my mom, Dede. Overall, our plan seems to be GREAT for everyone involved and we are excited to get started.

Check out the company if you are a mom of educator, the product is very cool! www.wirelessgeneration.com and www.freereading.net . I will be working on the BURST software.

more pics for the post below....

A picture is worth a 1000 words!

Since it would take over 1,000 words to update you on the last few months, I thought I would use pictures instead.

We got rid of the paci!!!!!!! When Cooper went through this I called him an "addict" and dreaded the day we gave them away. I had NO clue though til we went through it with Samantha. She truely relied on her paci as comfort and wanted it with her at ALL times......until, the princess bike came into the picture. One trip to Walmart for a princess bike and the paci was history. Who says transitions are not easy???? ;)

Cooper continues to love his preschool. Here he is proudly displaying his hat made on "h" day while using his bug vaccum as a weapon. Boys will be boys.

The caption here should be "Oh my, time to try preschool #2!!!!!". This was the first day of Samantha's new preschool. Preschool #1 (where Cooper is) was not a perfect fit so after lots of shopping around, we found Hillside UMC and Samantha loves it!!!!

When life gives you rain, jump in the puddles!!!!! A little rainy day fun never hurt anyone, especially in the middle of a few stressful months. Through everything (giving away their dog, packing up their things, living with grandparents, looking for houses, etc.) they have been amazing! I think it is safe to say we are finally getting settled in Atlanta and starting our new adventure. More to come.......

From the mouths of babes...

There have been SO many times lately that I have wanted to hop on here and blog about something cute the kids did or said. Times have been crazy and honestly a usb cord (shocker) is no where to be found in our new place yet so I have not been on the computer much. However, there are a few things too good to NOT write down asap for fear they could be forgotten.

Samantha: 3.5 years old

Daddy: "Sammy you have such beautiful hair."
Samantha: "I know. God got it for me."

Cooper: 4.75 years old

Cooper: "Momma, what were some of those things I was interested in being when I grow up?"
Me: "Well you are interested in being an astronaut, right?"
Cooper: "yup"
Me: "And what about a businessman like daddy?"
Cooper: "NOPE! Not that. I think I am interested in being one of those people that saves animals from the ocean when they need to be rescued, ok?"
Me: "Sure Cooper. That sounds GREAT!"

Samantha: putting her to bed

Me: "Samantha, give momma a kiss."
Samantha: "I have an idea. Let's cheers heads instead!" (meaning bang our heads together and say "cheers!")

Cooper: driving past a cemetery

Cooper: "Momma, do people in jail go to Heaven?"
Me: "Well yes Cooper, some do." That was a difficult one to try and explain!

As you can see, life is never dull in our world. Like Phil says, "can we just freeze them like this?". I have started looking at my kids lately and realizing how old they have become. Cooper listens to everything, questions most things and recites phrases I did not even know he heard! Samantha loves trying new things, taking risks and often times wins after explaining to Cooper why things should be done HER way. The new favorite game around her is playing "Disney World". The kids pack their things, set up cushions from the couch like the monorail and draw fast passes for Tower of Terror. I am worried if I close my eyes too long I will wake up with teenagers! Time sure DOES fly when you are having fun!!!!!
